Ghost Island Gunkanjima



In the early 1900s, Gunkanjima is a prosperous island for its rich coal. Mitsubishi Corporation, which manages coal mining here, really make Gunkanjima become the city's rich and dense population, large though this island is less than 1 km2.

To accommodate the miners, ten apartment complex built on a small stone - a tall maze associated with courtyards, corridors, and stairs. There are schools, restaurants, and gaming houses, all surrounded by a protective wall. The island is known as "nashi Midori Shima," without a green island. The 50-year population reached 6000 people, this is the most densely populated island in the world at that time.

But the coal mines that continue dredged up into the bottom of the sea, over time spent and the island was closed. The island did not have any green plants gradually die.
